Red Line Oil Karting Championship: Race 1

As the 2011 season opener kicked off at the Jim Russell International Karting Center, Nick Galante was getting ready to what would be a great weekend. Saturday practice was available to the competitors who were shaking off the winter rust, preparing for the first race of the season.
On race day Sunday, the qualifying times in the 125Shifter Spec Honda S4 class, were extremely close. Brad Shaffer would take the pole position with a lap time of 49.235, Nick Galante would start alongside on the front row with a 49.333, Qualifying third would be Jim Ingelbright with a 49.411. David Arnstein qualified fourth with a 49.435. These close qualifying times would be a early indication of some great racing to come.
In the 8 lap heat race 1. Brad Shaffer would take the lead into turn 1 with a great start. Nick Galante following close behind. On Lap 2 Galante made a great run down the straight and into turn one taking the spot from Shaffer for the lead. Galante would go unchallenged for the remainder of the race to take the win in heat 1. David Arnstein made a great run to finish 2nd. Brad Shaffer 3rd, Inglebright 4th.
Heat 2 saw an interesting start with a stalled kart on the green flag. Racers had to maneuver around to avoid the collision. Galante had to put two wheels in the grass to avoid contact at the start, but was able to make it cleanly into turn one in 4th place. With some work to do, Galante made it back to third place by lap 3, behind Inglebright in second. On lap 5 Galante had a run on Inglebright into turn one and made a tight squeeze pass with some sidepod contact. The always fast and agressive Inglebright would not make it easy and challenged into turn two. Shaffer would take the win in heat two. Galante 2nd. Inglebright 3rd. Arnstein 4th.
In the Main Event. Nick Galante would Start on the front row after earning the great finishes in the 2 heat races. Galante got the kart to launch at the green flag to take the lead into turn one. Galante would lead the race and go unchallenged for the win in race one of the Red Line Oil Karting Championship also grabbing fastest lap of the race to sweeten the win. David Arnstein would finish second. Schaffer would finish third after colliding with teammate Inglebright in turn one. Inglebright finishing fourth.
Round two of the Red Line Oil Karting Championship is set to take place on May 1st at the Jim Russell International Karting Center in Sonoma, California at Sears Point, Infineon Raceway!
